I am writing in sorrow and anger. I am ashamed of the way we are treating each other.
For a long time I have been trying to understand the war that is raging inside me. Every day I feel like I am being torn apart. People I know are dying and I cannot do anything to stop it. The war inside me is a battle between sanity and madness. Nothing makes sense any more.
I want to scream and cry, but instead I am silent. I am numb.
I remember what it was like before the war. In the villages and towns we would go out and celebrate after harvest. We would sing and dance. We would laugh and joke. Life was good.
Now there is nothing but death. We hear the bombs exploding in the distance and see the fires ablaze. Everywhere we look there are ruins and blood.
I feel so alone. I am all alone in this silent war.
But I know that I am not alone. I have the people here in Kiev. I have my friends and family. I am not alone.
The war is not only taking the lives of the people here in Kiev. It is taking the lives of the people in Donetsk and Kharkiv too. It is taking the lives of the people in Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
The war is destroying our homes and our families.
But we must not give up. We must not give in to the madness of the war.
We must continue to fight and to live.
We must do what is right and what is best for our families and for our country.
