A leak of a sex tape involving reality TV star Khloe Kardashian has prompted heavy criticism and some calls for revocation of her visa.
The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star, who is married to basketball player Lamar Odom, was filmed in a compromising position with her former boyfriend, Los Angeles Lakers player swingman Tyreke Evans.
The tape, which TMZ said was filmed three years ago, has already caused embarrassment for Khloe and her family and is sure to inflame public anger over the leaked footage.
One critic, Jonathan Wachter, Catholic University professor, said in an article for the Huffington Post website that Khloe’s citizenship should be withdrawn because of her involvement in the tape.
“It is one thing for an individual to engage in underground behavior, or to make public or private mistakes,” he wrote. “It is quite another for an individual to promote this kind of behavior by behaving in a way that exposes her citizenship and national worth to ridicule and contempt.”
Others, however, have argued that the tape is simply embarrassing and not worthy of revoking Khloe’s visa.
“I sincerely hope that Khloe and Lamar have learned from this situation and I think the tape will only serve to further embarrass them and the Kardashian-Odom family name,” wrote one commenter on the Huffington Post website.
“However, as a legal immigrant myself, I am not so quick to judge. I am sure that if all the information released is true and accurate, then Lamar is also to blame for this situation.”
The US Citizenship and Immigration Services has not yet decided whether to revoke Khloe’s visa.
